1. Do I have to have a host station to use WeatherPane?

No. You can download a copy of WeatherPane from our home page. You will, however, miss some of the special features of the WeatherPane system that are utilized by the local stations. Also, although we cover most zip codes, there are still a few that are not included in the WeatherPane system. As long as you are in a covered area, however, you will receive your weather updates.

2. What is done with the information I submit?

The information we receive from you is used to provide services (we need to know where you live, for example, to provide current weather and alerts). The information is also used to provide statistics to host stations and advertisers in order to market the WeatherPane Company. Your detailed information is never given to anyone. You simply become part of the WeatherPane family. If you would like to read a copy of our privacy policy, please click here.

4. I get the message, "Unable to load page?". What's with that?

The "Unable to load page" message occurs when you are not able to reach the WeatherPane server. This is usually related to an Internet problem and will always be temporary.

5. There is a clicking noise every 30 seconds or so. Can I make it stop?

This is a windows function that informs you that a new window is being displayed. The sound can be changed or eliminated. Bear in mind that this will remove the sound from your Windows Explorer brower when you change web sites. This does not effect any other part of Windows and is considered a very safe change.

1. Open the Start Menu and browse to the Control Panel.
2. Open the "Sounds and Multimedia" portion of the Control Panel.
3 . Click on the "Sounds" tab.
4. Scroll through the "Sound Events" window until you see "Windows Explorer".
5. Under the Windows Explorer heading, select "Start Navigation".
6. In the "Name:" box you will see the name of the wave file that plays whenever you go to a new web page.
7. Click on the arrow just to the right of the wave file name. This will drop a potentially very long list of available sounds.
8. Scroll to the top of the list and select "(None)".
9. Click on the "OK" button. This will end the clicking sound.

If you wish to reverse the change, follow the preceding steps. When you reach step 8, do the following.

8. Scroll through the list and select "Windows XP Start.wav".
9. Click on the "OK" button. This will cause the sound to return.
